Giant slalom race opens Galeb Sail & Ski Race event
At a press conference held at the headquarters of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the third edition of the sports event "Galeb Sail & Ski Race" was announced, which will be held from March 7 to 9 in Platak and Kostrena.
The event was presented by the Head of the Administrative Department for Culture, Sports and Technical Culture Sonja Sisic, director of the Goran sports center Ivan Stojanovic and members of the organizing committee Dean Pavlak and former Olympian Bojan Grego from the Galeb Sailing Club. Headmistress Šišić pointed out that this event in the most beautiful way points to the exceptional tourism and sports potential of our blue-green county: – This event combines sailing and skiing and connects the coastal and highland areas of our county in the best possible way, therefore it is Primorje-Gorski Kotar County its main sponsor from the very beginning.
The sports program begins on Friday, March 7th, in Platak with an afternoon giant slalom race. On Saturday and Sunday, March 8th and 9th, the competitions continue with sailing in front of Kostrena in the classes Šljuka, 420 and ILCA 6 (formerly Laser Radial), and the overall victory will count for points in both competitions.

- 9. 3. 10:00 Start of the 1st sailing race in front of Žurkovo bay
- 9. 3. 16:00 Ceremony at JK Galeb in Kostrena
The organizers hope that this year's weather conditions will be more favorable than last year's and that all planned competitions will be held successfully, and invite skiers and sailors to register in as many numbers as possible. Competitors can register via the following link: Application form, until March 6, 2025, although they will not turn away anyone who wants to participate.
The ski race will be held according to FIS rules on the Radeševo 1 track, organized by the Rijeka Ski Club, with technical support from the Goranski Sports Center and the Municipality of Čavle, while the organization in Kostrena will be taken care of by the Galeb Sailing Club, which will be supported in the household by the Municipality of Kostrena and the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Kostrena. The organization was also supported by the Croatian Tourist Board, Jadrolinija, Medico Special Hospital, Jadran Hotels, 2nd place-LD, the Croatian Sailing Federation, and the Croatian Olympic Committee.
With the sports event “Galeb Sail & Ski Race”, the organizers from the Rijeka Ski Club and the Galeb Sailing Club want to revitalize an important part of the sports history of our region, remembering the former “Adriatic Slalom” from 1981, a popular competition that combined skiing and sailing and brought together great athletes from both worlds. Rarely can a region boast the geographically unique opportunity to hold skiing and sailing competitions at such a short distance.
