Zagreb Children FIS international competition held
The Zagreb Children FIS international competition was held in Platak on February 17th and 18th, with 150 young skiers from 18 countries participating.
Platak hosted this important ski competition for the first time, precisely in the year in which the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County holds the title of European Region of Sports.
The competition was jointly organized by the Zagreb Ski Association, the Croatian Ski Association, the Goranski Sports Center, the Rijeka Ski Club and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, confirming the successful cooperation of national and local sports institutions.
The conditions at Platak were surprisingly good considering the weather conditions that preceded the competition. The races were held in sunny weather, on an excellently prepared course that fully met the high international standards of FIS competitions. The young skiers and their coaches expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the course and the overall organization, which once again confirmed that Platak has the capacity and potential to host international sports events.
The competition brought together skiers in the U14 and U16 categories. The first day featured a giant slalom, in which competitors from the Rijeka Ski Club achieved notable results. In the U14 category, Lukas Šepić took 4th place, Luka Kovačević 21st, and Lana Skokan 28th place. In the U16 category, Dea Šepić won 7th place.
The second day of the competition featured slalom. In the U14 category, Lukas Šepić won 5th place, Luka Kovačević 13th, and Lana Skokan 19th. Dea Šepić finished the race in 17th place in the U16 category.
In the overall team standings, the Slovenian national team won, while Croatia took an excellent second place.
The awards were presented on behalf of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County by Deputy County Prefect Toni Štimac and Head of the Administrative Department for Culture, Sports and Technical Culture Sonja Šišić.
